Breast Lift

If you’re like most women, your breasts will begin to sag over time, for reasons that may include age, breastfeeding, weight changes, and genetics. Mastopexy, often called a breast lift, is a surgical procedure that lifts and reshapes sagging breasts. A breast lift in Indiana with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gus Galante can help your breasts have a more youthful, perky shape again.

If you live in Northwest Indiana and have breast lift questions, request a complimentary consultation online, or schedule an appointment at Dr. Galante’s Schererville or Valparaiso office by calling (800) 721-3244.

Talking It Over

Many women seek breast lift surgery to rejuvenate the appearance of their breasts. Improvements include:

  • Raising saggy, stretched out breasts to a youthful position
  • Restoring a rounded, perky breast shape
  • Directing nipples upwards
  • Reducing the size of enlarged or stretched areolas

You can discuss your goals and expectations at your consultation. If you have pictures of the size and shape of breasts you like, bring them with you to help communicate your goals for surgery. Dr. Galante is very approachable and will encourage you to ask questions. Your peace of mind and confidence are of the utmost importance.

Procedure Specifics

During a breast lift, Dr. Galante raises the breasts by removing excess skin, fat and other tissue. He also repositions the nipples and, if desired, reduces the size of the areolas (the darker skin surrounding the nipples). He then reshapes the breasts to make them rounder and more youthful looking.

In most cases, Dr. Galante will use one of 3 common breast lift techniques:

  • Anchor-shaped incision
  • Vertical or lollipop incision
  • Concentric (doughnut) incision

You will be under general anesthesia, so you will sleep through your surgery. Dr. Galante normally performs breast lift surgery as an outpatient procedure, meaning you can return home the same day. However, you will need someone to drive you home and care for you for the first few days.

Breast Lift With Augmentation

Often a woman’s dissatisfaction with her breasts is not only due to sagginess; breasts that sag commonly do not have enough volume to achieve a full, rounded shape. Dr. Galante may recommend a combined approach to breast lift using breast implants. By performing breast lift in conjunction with breast augmentation, patients can enjoy fuller, more youthful-looking breasts.

Although combining these 2 procedures presents additional challenges, Dr. Galante has the surgical skills and experience to achieve satisfying results while devoting special attention to patient comfort and safety. He will thoroughly review your options with you before determining the most effective combination of procedures for your unique goals. Your peace of mind and confidence in your decision are of the utmost importance to Dr. Galante.

After Your Breast Lift Procedure

After surgery, Dr. Galante will dress your incisions with light bandages. He will give you detailed post-surgical instructions and prescribe medication for any discomfort. Your breasts will be sore for approximately 3 days. You will need to wear a support bra for at least a few weeks and up to a few months. You’ll need to avoid wearing underwire bras until you heal completely.

Breast lift patients should limit active movement for at least the first few days to avoid pulling the stitches. Although you can resume light activities in 7 to 10 days, you should avoid strenuous movements and heavy lifting for several weeks. As with all surgery, breast lift surgery will leave scars, but they usually fade within the first year.

It’s important to remember that a combined breast procedure requires a bit more recuperation time than a singular procedure would, and may also require the use of surgical drains. Dr. Galante wants you to be comfortable and safe during your own recuperation, and he will give you specific post-op instructions prior to your surgery.
