Case Number: 182
After losing 100 pounds, this 57-year-old man was left with a saggy neck and lower eyelid puffiness. These concerns often cause people to look tired and older than they actually are. This patient met with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Galante in his in Valparaiso office. He recommended a less-invasive alternative to a neck lift, called cervicoplasty, to address the patient's concerns about his neck. To address the lower eyelids, Dr. Galante recommended lower blepharoplasty, also called lower eyelid surgery.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Galante in the Lakeshore Surgery Center in Chesterton, Indiana, with the patient resting comfortably under general anesthesia. The incisions from both procedures are usually easily concealed, leaving no obvious traces of surgery. Dr. Galante can perform cervicoplasty using small incision hidden in a natural crease under the chin, and an incision on the front of the neck that fades well in a short time period. Lower blepharoplasty may be performed through incisions inside the lower eyelids or carefully placed along the lower lash line.
After blepharoplasty, patients can minimize swelling and bruising by applying cold compresses as directed when they arrive home and by sleeping upright for a few days. It's important to follow Dr. Galante's recovery instructions carefully to avoid complications and minimize recovery time.
