This 67-year-old patient wanted to address the loose skin under her chin, sometimes called a "turkey gobbler," but felt a neck and facelift was too much surgery for her. Dr. Galante instead recommended cervicoplasty to treat her neck. A cervicoplasty is a less-invasive alternative to neck lift at our Indiana plastic surgery practice. Although it does not address the lower face or jawline, they decided it would solve this patient's main concern, which was the extra skin on her neck.
At Dr. Galante's Valparaiso location, they discussed her surgical options. He explained that the downside to cervicoplasty is that it creates a small scar under the chin and on the front of the neck. However, upon understanding her potential results, this patient was willing to make this trade-off. Cervicoplasty is also less costly than a neck or facelift.
Dr. Galante performed her cervicoplasty while she was under MAC, or monitored anesthesia care. MAC is a careful blend of local anesthesia with sedation. Although this option is not available for all procedures, it is often useful for more minor surgeries. MAC typically requires a shorter recuperation while keeping patients just as comfortable as they would be if they had undergone general anesthesia.
After surgery, the patient is very happy with her results. In the "after" photo, you can see a significant improvement in her neck, which takes years off her face as a whole.
If you have an interest in cervicoplasty, you may schedule a consultation with Dr. Galante at either his Schererville or Valparaiso, Indiana, plastic surgery offices.
