Spider Veins
Spider veins are fine, blue or purplish vessels that form in clusters on the legs and ankles. They can be embarrassing and may cause you to eliminate shorts or skirts from your wardrobe. Though most common in women after pregnancy, this condition can occur at any time. Dr. Rebecca Garza offers a non-surgical procedure called sclerotherapy for spider vein treatment in Indiana. This simple technique removes unsightly spider veins, restoring a healthy look to the affected area.
Sclerotherapy is a safe procedure that eliminates or significantly reduces spider veins, allowing you to bare your legs with confidence. Request a complimentary consultation online with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Rebecca Garza or call our office at (800) 721-3244.

Talking It Over
During your consultation, Dr. Garza will take a thorough medical history and examine your veins and skin tone. She’ll ask for a complete list of any medications you are taking, and she’ll determine whether the veins for treatment are spider or varicose veins. Further examination may be necessary to determine whether you have a more serious ailment that requires medical attention. Be sure to inform Dr. Garza if you experience discomfort, itching or swelling in your legs.
Procedure Specifics
Dr. Garza performs sclerotherapy as an office procedure, meaning you can return home the same day. Anesthesia is not necessary for this procedure. Using a tiny needle, Dr. Garza makes a series of injections directly into your spider veins. This causes them to collapse and eventually disappear. Each injection destroys about an inch of vein at a time. The treatment typically lasts less than an hour, depending upon the number of veins treated.
Many patients require 2 or 3 treatment sessions spaced 1 month apart to eliminate the veins completely. You can expect a 70 to 80 percent improvement.
You will need to wear a compression garment or wrap for a few days after each treatment. Wearing support hose for the first few weeks will enhance the veins’ collapse.
You should avoid strenuous activities during the first week after treatment to avoid adding pressure to the veins. Daily walks will increase circulation and decrease the risk of blood clots. Although sclerotherapy is a very effective treatment, it will not prevent new veins from forming.
