Chemical Peels

Environmental and lifestyle factors can damage even the healthiest skin, creating blotches, sun damage, uneven skin tone or damaged skin texture. A chemical peel in Indiana with Dr. Gus Galante removes the damaged outer layer of cells to reveal the smooth, healthy skin underneath. Dr. Galante performs chemical peels of various strengths on the face, neck and hands.

Uncover your youthful, glowing skin with a chemical peel performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon or one of his staff members. Talking It Over

During your consultation, Dr. Galante will examine your skin thoroughly to determine the exact concentration and duration of chemical peel to achieve your goals. He will also discuss the type of chemical solution necessary for your results, as well as risks, recovery and aftercare.

Procedure Specifics

All chemical peels at our Indiana offices are performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you can go home the day of your treatment. Dr. Galante offers three types of chemical peels:

Light Peels

Also called "lunchtime peels," light peels take less than 15 minutes and require no downtime. Light peels reduce wrinkles and improve some textural sun damage. They also reduce acne scars and alleviate rough, dry skin. Most patients resume their regular routines the day of their treatment. You may experience some redness, flaking and dryness resembling the effects of a mild sunburn as the outer skin layer sloughs off.

Medium Peels

Medium peels penetrate more deeply than light peels but usually only take about 30 minutes to administer. This type of peel corrects moderate sun damage, pigment and skin discoloration, wrinkles and texture problems. Medium peels don't require anesthesia, though you may feel a slight burning or stinging sensation at first. Depending on the level and duration of your peel, you may experience considerable swelling, which will diminish within a week. You can resume regular activities after a week to 10 days.

Deep Peels

These extremely strong peels offer dramatic results and are used to treat pre-cancerous skin growths, deep wrinkles and other significant skin damage. Deep peels often require anesthesia and sedation, and treatment can take up to 2 hours for the full face. We will coat the treated area with a soothing, cooling agent after your peel, and you will go home with a dressing or bandage. The treated area will scab within the first few days, and new skin will form beneath the scab after about 10 days. Recovery time can last as long as 3 weeks, but results will progress over the next few months. Dr. Galante does not recommend deep peels for people with darker complexions, as the peel can lighten skin tone.
