Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) Before & After Case 13

This patient is a 51 year old resident of Northwest Indiana and presented to our office in Munster, Indiana for a consultation to treat her baggy upper eyelids. Over the years she noticed that her once prominent and attractive eyes were less noticeable because of the skin hanging over her eyelids.

Her examination revealed marked excess eyelid skin (dermatochalasis) especially on the outer or lateral part of the lid often described as hooding. She also had excess fat noted in the corners next to her nose. The eyebrows must be taken into consideration when examining and attempting to rejuvenate this part of the face. Her eyebrows were not droopy and were in a favorable position, and therefore, no surgery was necessary to improve their appearance.

An upper eyelid lift or blepharoplasty was performed to address her concerns. This cosmetic surgery for her eyelids was done as an outpatient at a local ambulatory surgery center in Munster. Indiana. Only a local anesthetic with mild sedation was required to keep her comfortable for this operation. The excess, hanging skin on her eyelids was removed as well as a small strip of muscle underneath the skin to better define the crease. The protruding fat was also removed.

Aside from some mild bruising and swelling for the first day which was treated with cold packs and elevating her head on pillows, her recovery from this blepharoplasy procedure was straightforward. Her sutures were removed on the third day following surgery and she returned to her job working as a receptionist in medical office within three days.

Her before and after photos show how a tired look can be transformed into a more alert and rested appearance with an eyelid lift. This patient also noted the ease with which she could apply her eyeliner and mascara after her eyelid procedure. This procedure uncovered her attractive eyes which she had in her youth, something for which she was very grateful.
