This 36-year-old woman came to our Schererville office wanting to have a more contoured waist and thighs. Because she was in good health overall and was close to her ideal weight, Dr. Galante determined the patient was a good candidate for liposuction. The Indiana secretary underwent liposuction on her abdomen and her thighs.

The photos show that removing excess fat from specific locations of the body can give you a trimmer, sleeker appearance.  Liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure, and patients can choose to either have local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.

Dr. Galante uses a technique called tumescent liposuction that includes injecting a saline solution mixed with anesthetic. This is meant to make the fat cells easier to remove and to lessen the discomfort during recovery, which usually takes a few weeks. Patients are encouraged to wear a compression garment for a month after their surgeries, and most swelling usually goes down within 2 or 3 weeks.
