Many of my Indiana plastic surgery patients wish to have an improvement in their facial appearance, but aren’t quite ready for a facelift. For those patients, a Lunchtime Facelift, also known as a Liquid Facelift, can provide improvement that, although temporary, is less expensive than a traditional facelift and has virtually no downtime. It’s often called a “lunchtime” facelift because the entire session can usually be completed over ones lunch hour.
What is a Lunchtime Facelift?
A Lunchtime or Liquid Facelift is a non-surgical procedure that involves the injection of dermal fillers, such as Juvéderm, Voluma, Restylane, Perlane and/or Restylane Silk to fill and lift the tissues of the face, as well as Botox or Dysport to soften the wrinkles of animation, such as those around the eyes (crow’s feet) and in the brow.
Who is Right for a Lunchtime Facelift?
If you have early signs of facial aging, such as drooping in the jaw area (jowling) and a flat appearance due to sagging in the cheeks, along with wrinkling mentioned above, a Lunchtime Facelift may give you the level of improvement you seek. It will not give the same results as a surgical facelift and is not as permanent as a surgical facelift (although it should be mentioned that even a surgical facelift will not stop the aging process).
How a Liquid Facelift is Performed
A Liquid Facelift is done in my Indiana plastic surgery office, either in Valparaiso or Schererville. After application of an anesthetic cream (which is removed after about 45 minutes), the skin is cleansed. The dermal fillers contain their own anesthetic, making the process as comfortable as possible. Depending on your type of facial aging, Botox or Dysport may be injected to smooth the brow, the area between the brows (sometimes called the 11’s), and crow’s feet. Dermal fillers are used to fill wrinkles from the nose to the mouse (nasolabial folds), and from the mouth to the chin (marionette lines). Voluma is an excellent, long-lasting filler that lifts the cheek, which, in some patients, will minimize sagging in the jawline.
Recovery from a Liquid Facelift
Recovery is very fast, and many patients return to their schedule on the same day. You may have some swelling, which dissipates within 24 hours. For those who bruise easily, some bruising can appear at the injection sites. Improvement is generally seen within 5-7 days, as Botox and Dysport both require a few days to show results. Depending upon the dermal fillers used, improvement can last from 1-2 years, although Botox and Dysport will likely need injected again within six months.
