Meet Dr. Garza
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Rebecca Garza blends her meticulous surgical technique honed through years of training at some of the nation’s most prestigious hospitals with a compassionate approach to patient care and unique perspective of women’s bodies and life changes. Dr. Garza is a Northwest Indiana native whose impressive background includes fellowship training at the University of Chicago, where she later joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery for 5 years.
Dr. Garza’s extensive experience using advanced surgical techniques to perform complex breast reconstruction procedures engendered a precise attention to detail that shows in her remarkable cosmetic surgery results.

Education & Training
Dr. Garza’s impressive credentials include an undergraduate degree from Stanford University in Human Biology. She returned to the Midwest to earn her medical degree from the University of Illinois, where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, a national medical honor society that recognizes academic distinction.
She was accepted into Stanford University’s plastic surgery residency program, one of the most prestigious training programs in the country. After completing her residency, she completed microsurgery fellowship training at the University of Chicago. Dr. Garza accepted an appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Chicago in 2017.
As a faculty member at the university, Dr. Garza focused on breast reconstruction, lymphedema surgery, and complex reconstructive surgery, in addition to her expertise in cosmetic surgery. She established a reputation for excellence in aesthetic surgery and served as the Director of the Aesthetic Surgery Program.
Her passion for breast reconstruction surgery includes building long-term relationships with patients, one of whom was featured on national television on Good Morning America.

Dr. Garza’s volunteer efforts showcase her empathetic nature and compassion. She has served on surgical missions in the Philippines, Mexico, and Zimbabwe, providing surgical care to the underserved and educating local physicians in reconstructive surgery.
In addition to those volunteer missions, Dr. Garza has volunteered as a surgeon for Fresh Start Caring for Kids Foundation in Chicago and continues to participate in educational outreach through ReSurge International to train plastic surgeons in Africa.

Dr. Garza has served on the Chicago Breast and Lymphedema Symposium program committee and the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery’s Young Microsurgeons Group for several years. She has also been a board member for the Illinois Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Researcher and Educator
Dr. Garza has published more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on subjects such as breast reconstruction, lymphedema, aesthetic surgery, craniofacial surgery, and social issues.
She is frequently invited to speak at professional conferences, has taught resident physicians, medical students, and undergraduate students, and serves as an instructor for the annual Plastic Surgery Board Review Course at Stanford University.
A native of Chicago’s suburbs and Northwest Indiana, Dr. Garza is married with 2 sons, who she spends as much time with as possible. She also enjoys traveling, experiencing great food, and exercising.
