This 37-year-old woman from Northwest Indiana came to my Valparaiso, Indiana, plastic surgery office for a consultation regarding breast enlargement. She lost volume after breastfeeding all three of her children. She wore an A cup bra and desired to fill a C cup.

Her exam which can be noted on her preoperative photo revealed small breasts with tight skin and a short inferior pole, which is the distance from the bottom of the areola to the crease under the breast. She was in otherwise good health and was an excellent candidate for a breast augmentation. Because she had little breast tissue and was within her ideal body weight, placement of the implants below the pectoral muscle was preferable to obtain the most natural result. This extra layer of muscle over the implants reduces the chances of seeing or feeling the implant's edges through the skin.

She underwent a breast augmentation in Indiana under general anesthesia as an outpatient. The implants were placed through an incision in the crease of the breast to minimize the scar. Based on the existing dimensions of her breasts and her expectations, a 320cc Inamed smooth, round, hi profile saline implant was used to maximize projection and minimize upper pole fullness.

The first day following her surgery she was able to shower and dress herself, and within two weeks she was back to her usual daily activities. Her before and after photos demonstrate the enhancement that can be achieved with saline breast implants while preserving a natural and feminine breast form.
