Your results may vary.

In Indiana, blepharoplasty (also known as eyelid surgery) can have surprisingly beneficial results for men and women whose eyes look tired and lifeless because of sagging upper eyelids or bags under the lower eyelids. Removing the bags and sags of your eyelids can reveal bright, clear eyes that have been concealed too long by excess skin and fat tissue. Dr. Galante performs both upper and lower eyelid surgery procedures to refresh the overall appearance of your eyes.

Dr. Galante will need to thoroughly examine your eyes during your initial consultation for eyelid surgery in Indiana. He will ask for a complete medical and vision history. Next, he will examine your eyes, eyebrows, and lids and see how they relate to each other. Dr. Galante will also ask if you experience eye dryness or eye pain regularly. You will be asked to honestly discuss your goals and desired results, and he will encourage you to ask any questions you may have about the procedure.

Dr. Galante performs eyelid lift procedures on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia so you will sleep through the procedure and be able to return home the same day. The procedure typically takes between 1 to 2 hours depending on the amount of tissue to be removed and whether both the upper and lower eyelids are being lifted. For an upper eyelid lift, Dr. Galante will make an incision in the natural crease of your eyelid to remove the appropriate amount of skin and tissue.

For a lower eyelid lift, Dr. Galante will make a delicate incision along the lash line of the lower eyelid to remove excess fat, muscle and skin. Very fine sutures are used to close the incision site. In some cases, it is possible to make the incision inside the lower eyelid. If this option is possible for your procedure, Dr. Galante will discuss the procedure with you during your consultation.

Dr. Galante will lubricate your eyes before releasing you from our office. Your eyes may feel tight for a day or two and any discomfort (which is usually minimal) can be relieved with medication. You will need to sleep with your head elevated for a night or 2 to reduce any swelling. Using a cold compress during the day will also help reduce any swelling. You may experience blurred vision for a few days. In rare cases some patients have trouble completely closing their eyes for the first week or 2 after surgery. Your sutures will be removed within the first week of recovery, which may alleviate some of the tightness.

Bruising and swelling will dissipate in about 10 days. You will need to avoid activities that cause dryness or irritation to your eyes, including wearing contact lenses. You may find that your eyes are sensitive to light for the first week, which is normal.

You will be able to return to light activities within a few days. Many eyelid lift patients choose to wait until their stitches are removed before returning to work. Though you may feel great within the first week of recovery, it is important to monitor your blood pressure and avoid strenuous activities as bleeding complications can affect your vision.

As you can see by Dr. Galante's before-and-after photos of previous Ieyelid lift patients, the results from blepharoplasty procedures can be very dramatic. Though the aging process never stops, this procedure offers results that last for many years. Some patients choose to have additional facial sculpting procedures like a facelift, brow lift, or neck lift, or non-surgical procedures like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Restylane® injections, or skin treatments.

Not everyone is a candidate for blepharoplasty. Having realistic expectations about the impact surgery will have on your life is important, and factors about your eyes and vision will be taken into account. Dr. Galante will discuss your expectations and evaluate your case during your consultation.

In some cases if blepharoplasty has the potential to correct vision problems, your insurance may cover part of the cost of the procedure. It is your responsibility to contact your insurance carrier to determine coverage. If the surgery is for cosmetic reasons, it will not be covered by insurance and fees and expenses are solely the responsibility of the patient.
