Chemical Peels in Indiana

The weather, elements and even your lifestyle in Indiana can damage even the healthiest skin. If you have blotches, sun damage, uneven skin tone or damaged skin texture, a chemical peel can remove the deadened outer layer of cells to reveal the smooth, even, glowing, younger skin trapped underneath. At both our Schererville and Valparaiso, Indiana, plastic surgery offices, Dr. Galante performs chemical peels of various strengths on the face, neck, and hands.

During your consultation at our Indiana cosmetic surgery offices, Dr. Galante will thoroughly examine your skin. Since chemical peels can be modified both by levels of concentration and duration, Dr. Galante will be able to determine the exact peel to achieve your goals and desires. Dr. Galante will also discuss with you the kind and amount of chemical solution necessary to achieve your results, the risks involved, recovery time and subsequent care your skin will require after treatment. During your consultation, you may ask any questions and voice any concerns that you may have.

At our Schererville and Valparaiso, Indiana, plastic surgery offices, three types of chemical peels are offered to our patients:

Light Peels: These are also called "lunchtime peels", because the treatment takes less than a half hour, and there is no downtime. This means you can usually return to work or your social schedule the day of your appointment. Light peels consist of glycolic or retinoic acids. Light peels can be repeated often. Light peels reduce very fine lines and wrinkles, smooth rough and dry skin, improve some textural sun damage, and can help reduce some acne scars. You may experience some redness, dryness and flaking like after a mild sunburn as the dead outer layer of skin sloughs off to reveal the healthier, smoother skin beneath.

Medium Peels: Also known as TCA (Trichloroacetic acid) peels, these peels penetrate the skin surface more deeply than a light peel. Medium peels take approximately 15 minutes to administer. Medium peels don't require anesthesia though there might be a slight burning or stinging sensation when the peel is first applied. Sometimes medium peels will need to be repeated to achieve your desired result. Medium peels can improve moderate sun damage, pigment and skin discoloration, wrinkles and texture problems. Depending on the level and duration of your medium peel, you may experience considerable swelling which will diminish within a week. You will be able to engage in regular activities with a week to 10 days.

Deep Peels: Phenol acid is used for deep peels. Deep peels are very strong and are not recommended for darker completions as the peel can lighten your skin tone. Deep peels can take up to two hours for the full face, but less time is necessary for smaller areas. Local anesthesia and sedation are often administered to patients receiving deep peels. The treated area will be treated with a soothing, cooling agent and dressed or bandaged before you leave. Phenol peels can only be performed once and offer dramatic results. Deep peels are often recommended to treat pre-cancerous skin growths, as well as deep wrinkles and other deep skin damage. The treated area will produce a scab over the first few days, and after about 10 days, new skin will form beneath the scab. Recover time can last as long as three weeks, but results will continue to progress over the next few months.

Each type of chemical peel is performed on an outpatient basis at our Indiana cosmetic surgery facilities. Since chemical peels target the outer layers of the skin, when combined with treatments that also target deeper tissues like injectable fillers, Botox® Cosmetic, or even facelift surgery, the final results can be significantly improved.

Not everyone is a candidate for chemical peel treatments in Indiana. Dr. Galante will discuss your expectations and evaluate your case during your consultation.

Since chemical peels are a cosmetic procedure, they are not covered by insurance and fees and expenses are solely the responsibility of the patient.
