As a woman and mother, she understands the reasons women (and men) consider aesthetic surgery, and customizes her approach based on their specific goals. 

Education & Training 

Dr. Garza’s impressive credentials include an undergraduate degree from Stanford University in human biology. She returned to the Midwest to earn her medical degree from the University of Illinois, where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, an elite national medical honor society that recognizes academic distinction. 

She was accepted into Stanford University’s plastic surgery residency program, one of the most prestigious training programs in the country. Following her residency, Dr. Garza went on to complete additional microsurgery fellowship training at the University of Chicago. She accepted an appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Chicago in 2017. 

In her 5 years teaching at the university, Dr. Garza focused on breast reconstruction, lymphedema surgery, and complex reconstructive surgery, in addition to sharing her expertise in cosmetic surgery. She established a reputation for excellence in aesthetic surgery and served as the director of the Aesthetic Surgery Program.

Giving Back Locally & Internationally 

Dr. Garza’s volunteer efforts showcase her empathetic nature and compassion. She has served on international surgical missions in the Philippines, Mexico, and Zimbabwe, providing surgical care to the underserved and educating local physicians in reconstructive surgery. 

In addition to these volunteer missions, Dr. Garza has volunteered as a surgeon for the Fresh Start Caring for Kids Foundation in Chicago and continues to participate in educational outreach through ReSurge International to train plastic surgeons in Africa.

Dr. Garza has served on the Chicago Breast and Lymphedema Symposium program committee and the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery’s Young Microsurgeons Group for several years. She has also served as a board member for the Illinois Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Researcher and Educator 

Dr. Garza has published more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters on subjects such as breast reconstruction, lymphedema, aesthetic surgery, craniofacial surgery, and social issues. 

She is frequently invited to speak at professional conferences and has taught resident physicians, medical students, and undergraduate students. In addition to serving as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Indiana University Northwest, Dr. Garza is also an instructor for the annual Plastic Surgery Board Review Course at Stanford University. 

Personal Life 

A native of Chicago’s suburbs and Northwest Indiana, Dr. Garza spends as much time as possible with her spouse and 3 sons. She also enjoys traveling, experiencing great food, and exercising.
